With some of the most popular social media platforms having been around for 10 to 15 years, it may be surprising to see one so young as TikTok rise to the top and compete with them head-on.

7. How Many Times was TikTok Downloaded on Android? 

Alright, so what about downloads? They’ve got to mean something, right? In order to understand downloads, we’ve got to look at both different phone operating systems, Android and iPhone. 

The majority of app downloads will come from Google Play on Android and Apple Store for iOS. First, we’ll examine Android. 

Android is home to 90% of the world’s TikTok users, as iPhones are not popular in every spot around the world. For this reason, the stats on Google Play downloads are a bit higher. 

1.5 billion TikTok downloads have come out of the Google Play store overall, 75% of total TikTok downloads.

TikTok surged in popularity in South America at the end of 2020, with the highest downloads coming from Brazil. Although not in South America, Mexico was second after Brazil. Both of these countries have high users of Androids. 

The US and Russia also have over 2 million downloads each, following Brazil and Mexico. TikTok was downloaded 850 million times worldwide in 2020 with WhatsApp being the second with roughly 600 million downloads. 

8. How Many Times Was TikTok Downloaded on iPhone?  

Now that we know about the performance on Google Play, we’ve got to take a look at iPhone downloads to truly understand the reach that TikTok has had. It can be a bit tough to really nail down these figures depending on the time period and a few other factors, but there are some clear takeaways. 

There have been 459.2 million TikTok downloads on the Apple App store, accounting for 24.5% of TikTok’s total downloads aside from Android, which holds 75%. TikTok was the second most downloaded app in all of 2020 second only to Zoom. 

With most workplaces moving online, it’s no surprise that Zoom was a necessity for more people, but even still, TikTok’s performance was impressive, beating out all other popular social media networks such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Twitter, Netflix, and all the rest. 

TikTok moved up from it’s 4th place spot in 2019, so it will be interesting to see how TikTok downloads fare this year and if they are impacted now by the high level of users who already have the app.

TikTok has been banned in India due to privacy concerns, so while the app was extremely popular amongst Indian people, unfortunately it is no longer operational in accordance with government rule. 

This has caused ByteDance to effectively begin laying off employees in India, currently saying goodbye to over 2000 employees. This is a huge blow, and it’s a huge blow to TikTok’s traction in India as well, considering that the app was one of the most-used video sharing apps available in India, with most people spending 85-90% of their video-watching needs on TikTok. 

Only time will tell whether or not TikTok will try to reenter the Indian market if the ban is ever lifted and political problems reconciled. 

11. Are TikTok and Douyin the Same?   

TikTok and Douyin are not the same, and while TikTok became available in 2018, Douyin was initially released in 2016. Impressively, it only took the team 200 days to get the TikTok version ready to release.

Douyin is the equivalent of TikTok in China, as they do not use the same TikTok app that is used in other places around the world. The daily user count of Douyin is 600 million, which is a massive number.

What’s great to see is that TikTok’s unique features, duet videos and reaction videos, are being used by almost half of users. This is pretty impressive and goes to show that these features make a difference on the platform. 

15. How Many Languages is TikTok available in?

It’s a bit of a mystery how much TikTok is actually worth, but some conclusions can be drawn based on the investment capacity that people are willing to offer for TikTok. 

ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, already has a huge worth of about $180 billion dollars, estimated. It’s no surprise that many offers have poured in for TikTok, some of them as high as $50 billion dollars. 

While this is a huge sum of money and a rough estimate of what TikTok may be worth overall, TikTok remains owned by ByteDance for the foreseeable future. 

The worth of TikTok may increase if there is a big spike in advertising or marketing endeavors. 

17. How Much do Users Spend on TikTok?  

The internet offers us a world at our fingertips, and with this new freedom comes a lot of potential for people to spend money at the drop of a hat.

As you can see, it’s much better to make money through partnerships or affiliate sales. You can make anywhere between 200 to 20k per post through influencer marketing, and some affiliate programs pay pretty well, especially for subscription services. 

You can also create your own products or services and offer your goods or subscriptions to users. Creators have great potential to make money on TikTok.

It seems, though, that many are still skeptical about the actual ROI that they can hope to get from TikTok influencer marketing; only 6% of marketers planning to use it expect a ROI. This is a bit surprising considering 35% opted to use it. 

Perhaps there just isn’t enough time and experience to say for sure; better to assume a loss than gamble it all and lose everything. Risks can pay off, but with the popularity of TikTok and the right influencer combination, these marketers could be in for  pleasant surprise.
